Packing list for tent camping

Heading out with a tent? Whether it's a weekend away or a long camping holiday, this list has everything for a good time at the campsite.

Things to think about

• A complete tent. Check at home that all poles, pegs and guy ropes are there. A spare peg or two never hurts.
• Sleep well. A good sleeping mat matters as much as a warm sleeping bag: the cold mostly comes from below.
• Cooking and washing up. A stove with enough gas, a pan, plates, cutlery and washing-up things.
• Light. A headlamp is handy in the dark, for example on the way to the toilet block.
• Any weather. Even in summer, nights can be cold and it can rain. Bring a raincoat and a warm jumper.
